Household Sewage Disposal Systems
The Athens City-County Health Department conducts a Household Sewage Disposal System program which consists of several different program areas in helping maintain water quality standards throughout the health district. The program was first established and placed into action in May of 1967, in which case the Uniform Household Sewage System Regulations for Athens County were instituted. Most of Athens County relies on sewage systems to treat and dispose of their wastewater due to limited access to centralized sanitary sewers.
