The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) is a tax-supported, state administered program through the Ohio Department of Health. The program can be used to rule out a handicapping condition, diagnose a condition, or provide ongoing treatment services for a known condition.
Children with the following special health care needs might qualify for BCMH:
- Diabetes
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Cerebral Palsy
- Hearing Loss
- Scoliosis
- Spina Bafida
- Epilepsy
- Cleft lip and palate
- Heart Defects
- Vision Problems
- Spinal Injuries
- Cancer
- Juvenile Arthritis
- Sickle Cell Disease
- Hemophilia
and many other medical conditions.
Financial eligibility is based on the needs of the child and the adjusted gross income of the family.
For example, middle income families that have a child requiring extensive services might still be eligible for BCMH.
